Culture Shock at McDonald's

So we went from a 5-star hotel with a tv in the bathroom to...



Yes. Elyse killed it and it's still sitting on the floor in our room, dead. Sorry it took so long to get this up but it took forever to figure out how to access the wifi. NO ONE SPEAKS ENGLISH HERE. Even the conference coordinators speak limited English, which is a big change for, Hong Kong where virtually everyone spoke English and all the signs and everything were bilingual. The flight and everything was fine, and then a coach bus brought us to the campus and dropped us off, in the dark, at a random place and then drove away. Our navigational geniuses figured out that our residence was at the top of the giant hill that we were at the bottom of, so we trekked up there with our suitcases and then the conference people helped us find our rooms. The dorm rooms aren't actually too bad, they're nice and big but they're covered in hair and bugs and the 'bed kits' are like blankets on wood lol. But the view from our room is AMAZING especially at night. We walked around for a long time trying to findarestaurant but nothing was open and no one spoke English, but then we found a super nice lady named Michelle who spoke good English and her mom, and they walked us to a mcdonald's and then went and got their car and drove some of us back to the residence in shifts. We're getting them tickets for the show to say thank you! Once at McDonald's, elyse was like WOAH... This is crazy culture shock. And crystalle was like lawllll we'reat McDonald's. But actually it really is, everything seems so so foreign especially after Hong Kong. today we ate breakfast at a convenience store which was interesting. Soon a coach bus is coming to get us to bring us to the geological rock formations, which should be really cool :)

The first thing we all noticed about taipei is the VESPAS. They're actually everywhere... No joke every sidewalk block has Vespas parked on it, and the streets are full of them, and the traffic laws don't actually seem to affect them which is interesting...
